PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS

 

2002 Sculpture and Nature, a special performance at the opening night of a new exhibition, entitled Sculpture and Nature, at New York's Isamu Noguchi Museum. With special guests, drone-pop guitarist David First and avant drummer Jim Pugliese.

Morphoses, a new work by choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, resident choreographer of the New York City Ballet, and a world premier collaboration with soloists of the New York City Ballet. The FLUX Quartet performed String Quartet No. 1 by Gyorgy Ligeti.

String Summit, a festival showcasing new directions in string playing at The Kitchen in New York City. Featuring works by Ornette Coleman, Iannis Xenakis, and new original works by Chiu.


2001-2003 When Morty Met John... Carnegie's Weill Hall, New York City. Three-year series focusing on the friendship and music of John Cage and Morton Feldman, as well as other members of the New York School, including Earle Brown and Christian Wolff. Featured artists include Joan LaBarbara, Margaret Leng Tan, and the FLUX Quartet.

2001 Premier of Chiu's new work, eom, performed by the New York based Downtown Ensemble.

2000 Ornette Coleman, opening concert of Bell Atlantic Jazz Festival. Director and Concertmaster, Harmolodic Chamber Ensemble, in premier performance of Coleman's Freedom Symbol. New York City.

Sir John Tavener, premier appearance in America. Featured performers included the FLUX Quartet, Tallis Scholars, and Sir Paul McCartney. New York City.

1999 Red Beads, a collaboration with avant director Lee Breuer of Mabou Mines, puppeteer Basil Twist, and composer Ushio Torikai. Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Morton Feldman's String Quartet No. 2. World premier of the original, unabridged version of this six-hour masterpiece. Cooper Union, New York City.

1997-1999 Rainbow Cafe, and Starry Night, collaborations with avant choreographer Eun-Me Ahn. SoHo Joyce Theatre and Columbia's Miller Theater, New York City.

1996-1997 Artistic director and curator of Music-In-Flux, a concert series devoted to music that defies categorization. Featured artists on the series included balloon virtuoso Judy Dunaway, microtonal-electronicist Virgil Moorefield, and the FLUX Quartet, resident ensemble of the series.

1996 World premier of the Universe Symphony by Charles Ives, realized and conducted by microtonalist Johnny Reinhard. Concertmaster of the 70-piece AFMM Orchestra. Alice Tully Hall, New York City.
